Privacy and readership analytics

SecurityNotes uses first-party, cookie-free aggregate readership analytics alongside the hosting provider’s standard AWStats access-log reporting.

Our analytics count page requests and probable engaged reads separately. An engaged read requires at least 15 seconds with the page in the foreground and 25% scrolling, or 30 seconds of foreground viewing. These signals are estimates, not proof that a visitor is human.

The aggregate database records date, page, broad browser and device categories, source category, optional LinkedIn campaign tag, approximate country only where the host supplies a country code, and broad engagement categories. It does not store IP addresses, raw user-agent strings, full referrer URLs, cookies, fingerprinting data or persistent visitor identifiers.

The web host independently processes access logs which may include IP addresses; refer to the hosting provider’s policies. Recognised crawlers are filtered from the first-party event collector, although sophisticated automation can still be counted. Browser activity blocked by privacy settings may not be recorded.
